Embarking on this journey of having an energetic healing business has been an expansion in the biggest way. It’s not just connecting into someone else’s energy, I give a part of myself during the hour long session. My whole body is engaged; listening, following the pings, and being open to sound crazy by telling what I see and feel. So while it isn’t about me, it is at the same time.

Putting myself out there in this intangible way was something way out of my comfort zone. A place that I had never actively participated in before in a public way. There are some things that really surprised me in this whole journey and I thought I would share what I wish I knew before starting an energetic healing business.

*full disclosure though, it has been part of my journey in uncovering these things so while I wish I knew them beforehand, it wouldn't have changed anything. And the learning and growth that have come from these lessons have been instrumental to my own development.

Things I wish I knew before starting an energetic healing business

1. It will surprise you who will be your biggest fans - not everyone is going to get it

With things as personal as reiki and energetic healing, it is such a personal and vulnerable place to open up to someone with. Because of this, my word of mouth referrals are my #1 driver of traffic for booking sessions. Further, the people who have become the most vocal about my offerings and telling people about me have been extremely surprising. On the flip side, the people who have been silent have been surprising too. No judgement either way, it is just an observation. But if you had told me that one of my biggest cheerleaders and referral person was a friend from elementary school that I lost contact with, I would be really confused. BUT this also plays into the next point below.

2. Being vulnerable creates more connections

Sitting in vulnerability has been such a huge heart opener and driver in connection with others. It first starts with me putting myself out there, which is intimidating. But it has acted like a flame for moths to be attracted to. Shining my own light freely and honestly has brought forth others who can see my light and bring them into my field. The connections made from just sharing and being honest has created such beautiful connections.

3. Be scared and do it anyway. Over and over again

There have been times where my heart was pounding out of my chest and the uncomfortableness of what I was about to made me want to run and hide. I was scared, terrified even, but just knew that I had to do it. Now when I look back on some of those moments, I am in awe of myself. How did I do that? How was I able to show up and do that!? But I did. Even when I was scared. My heart knew what I was needing to do, and I trusted that it was meant for me.

4. Just say it. Trust your voice

My clients can attest to this - my sessions are full of dialogue. I talk, and we converse the WHOLE time. This also means that my process is a communicative work through. I talk as I am discovering because I like to bring people into the journey and also because that is how my process works! The things that come up in sessions, if I were to pause and think before I say it, I would lose my nerve because sometimes it sounds sooo out there. But in those moments of just saying it, I have brought people to tears and connected something for them that truly resonates. I stopped second-guessing my words, feelings, and thoughts within sessions because it's coming up exactly the way it is for a reason. And it's not for me to understand.

5. The content of the sessions is all to do with the client and not my abilities.

This goes either way. (I can go on a serious trip because their energy is ready for whatever comes through. Vice versa is some sessions it’s slower and more based on simple concepts. This does not determine MY worth, it is what they are needing to hear and have the ability to receive in that moment.) It's a bit of a mind trip but it needs to be said. I am the constant. I do not change, the client and their energy does. What I pick or (or don't pick up) is because that is what is needing to be brought through in that moment. I have sessions that are super mediumship heavy and others that are entirely focused on the body. Some are somewhere in between. But having an expectation of connecting in with a spirit as a way of distracting from what is needing to be felt in the body is setting us both up for disappointment.
